New iPhone 15 Pro CAD files have surfaced, featuring two significant changes. These files align with the latest rumors and come from a trusted source.
The iPhone 15 Pro rumor mill has been quite active lately, particularly in regards to the device's buttons. Initially, numerous reliable sources claimed that the iPhone 15 Pro series would feature haptic buttons, which 9to5Mac was able to corroborate through its own sources in MFi manufacturing. These buttons were believed to be one long, unified piece instead of two separate buttons.
However, in recent weeks, reports emerged that the new haptic buttons had been abandoned in favor of more traditional volume buttons due to production issues. 9to5Mac has obtained CAD files that support this change. Many individuals feared that this reversal would also result in the elimination of the so-called "mute button," which would replace the current mute switch with additional functionality. This new button was first reported by 9to5Mac's Filipe Esposito back in March.
It has now been confirmed that accessory makers are working with CADs that feature a more conventional button design and a mute button. These reputable CADs align perfectly with previous information and match the high-quality renders published by 9to5Mac, with two key differences: the buttons and the cameras.
Apple seems to be reverting to a traditional button design with separated volume buttons instead of the solid-state buttons that were previously expected. However, the new mute button is still present and is rumored to offer additional functionality, potentially mimicking the Action Button on the Apple Watch Ultra. It's important to note that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models will not have this new mute button to differentiate them from the iPhone 15 Pro lineup; they will stick with the existing mute switch.
Additionally, the camera bump on the iPhone 15 Pro series will still be larger this year, but the protrusions are less pronounced than initially expected. The iPhone 15 Pro Max's camera bump will be slightly larger than that of the smaller iPhone 15 Pro model, leading to speculation about a periscope zoom lens on the former.
These new CADs not only provide a glimpse of the new button design and updated camera rumors but also confirm design details from previous CAD models. The bezels are extremely narrow, USB-C is present, and the device's frame is more rounded than that of the iPhone 14 series. These internal CADs lend credibility to previously leaked information, and 9to5Mac is confident that the current manufacturers are designing accessories based on this information.
