A physical dial could potentially be added to the highly anticipated headset. Additionally, this headset may have a unique connection with the most recent AirPods Pro.
According to a report from The Information, Apple's mixed reality headset may allow users to switch between the real world and virtual reality using a physical dial located on the right side of the device. The headset is said to have a color passthrough feature that gives users a better view of their surroundings. It may also be compatible with Apple's AirPods wireless headphones, featuring the same H2 chip found in the second-generation AirPods Pro. When connected, the chip enables an "ultra-low-latency mode."
If users do not have AirPods Pro, the headset reportedly comes with a headband that has built-in speakers. It is not expected to have a headphone jack for wired headphones. The headset may also be powered by an external battery pack worn on the user's waist or an in-headband battery.
Apple reportedly sees videoconferencing as a potential use case for the headset, though developers may also be able to use Unity to build VR apps. The headset is expected to be revealed this year and may be branded as "Reality," with a potential cost of around $3,000 or more.
