The company will focus on improving Duplex voice technology.

Google announced the shutdown of a set of services Duplex on the Web, which was intended to simplify the process of choosing and ordering purchases online. All features will stop working on sites starting this month.

The company did not reveals the reasons for the closure of the service. In a conversation with Techcrunch, a Google spokesman said that the corporation had already notified all partners of the termination of work. Instead of developing Duplex on the Web, developers will focus on Duplex voice technologies.

As we continue to improve the Duplex experience, we’re responding to the feedback we’ve heard from users and developers about how to make it even better. By the end of this year, we’ll turn down Duplex on the Web and fully focus on making AI advancements to the Duplex voice technology that helps people most every day

Google introduced Duplex on the Web in 2019. It was assumed that the service would become a digital assistant for users that would help fill in the necessary data in different services. For example, if the user wants to buy a movie ticket, Duplex on the Web could open the site and fill in all the necessary information for the purchase, including seat selection. Later, the capabilities of the service expanded - it could change passwords, help with check-in for a flight, or automatically track discounts and other functions.

The alleged reason for the shutdown of Duplex on the Web was that the deployment was too slow. The service is supported by a limited number of sites and partners.
