Xiaomi overtakes Apple as second-largest smartphone brand

In August 2024, Xiaomi has officially surpassed Apple to become the second-largest smartphone brand in the world, according to Counterpoint Research.

This is the first time since 2021 that Xiaomi has achieved this. The Chinese company is now second only to Samsung.

Although Xiaomi's sales remained steady, it grew faster than Apple, which typically sees a decline before new iPhone launches. Xiaomi's strategy this year focused on fewer hero models in different price ranges, helping it gain market share, especially in lower-priced segments like the Redmi 13 and Note 13 series.

Xiaomi's growth has been strong in regions like India and Latin America, where it has increased its presence. Meanwhile, Apple is expected to regain its position once the new iPhone 16 series launches in September.

Overall, 2024 has been a strong year for Xiaomi, with its Redmi 13C ranking among the best-selling smartphones globally.
