Photos of an apparent Xbox Elite 3 controller prototype featuring a small built-in display have surfaced online, The Verge reports.
The images were shared by Reddit user u/ssuberlex, who claims to have bought the device on OfferUp for $200.
The most notable addition is the small screen built into the controller. Next to it is a pairing button that previously appeared in documents filed with a Brazilian regulator in May.
The display shows icons for the xCloud gaming service and an Xbox Series X console. In another photo, the screen displays a link to a private Microsoft cloud resource.
The prototype also features new scroll wheels, four rear paddles and a carrying case. The removable D-pad has been redesigned, while the triggers produce a distinct click when their short-travel mode is engaged.
Microsoft also appears to have designed the controller with easier home repairs in mind. Inside the battery compartment is a QR code linking to a support website, along with easily accessible Torx T6 screws.
The controller uses a removable 5.8 Wh battery, while both the battery and the device itself carry NOT FOR SALE markings.
The prototype is not currently functional. It does not connect to other devices and only flashes a red indicator, but The Verge’s sources believe the controller could officially launch later this year.
