American Carrie Edwards used OpenAI’s ChatGPT to pick her lottery numbers and ended up winning $150,000, the New York Post reports.
She simply asked the chatbot: “I’m like, ChatGPT, talk to me… Do you have numbers for me?” The AI generated five numbers between 1 and 69 for Powerball.
Edwards matched four out of five numbers, earning an initial $50,000 prize. Because she had added the $1 Power Play option, her winnings tripled to $150,000.
The winner admitted she rarely plays online lotteries and never expected such luck. A few days after the draw, she received the notification of her win.
One-third of the prize will go to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) . Another share will support Shalom Farms, a restored farm focused on food justice.
The remaining funds will benefit the U.S. Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. “Because it’s a windfall I didn’t expect, and it’s certainly going to help those in need,” Edwards explained.
