WhatsApp has introduced AI-generated replies for messages, according to TechCrunch.

The update expands the “Writing Help” feature introduced last year. The AI can now analyze conversation context and suggest ready-made responses. The company emphasizes that personal chats remain fully private.

In addition to smart replies, developers are rolling out several other improvements:

  • Targeted storage cleanup: users can delete large media files directly within chats while keeping the conversation history intact.
  • AI photo editing: built-in AI tools allow users to remove distracting objects, change backgrounds, or apply new styles.
  • Easier data transfer: chat history can now be moved from iOS to Android, as well as within the same platform.
  • Two accounts on iOS: iPhone users will be able to use two profiles simultaneously (Android already supports this feature).
  • Sticker suggestions: when typing emojis, WhatsApp will automatically suggest matching stickers.

The new features are being rolled out gradually.

Last summer, Telegram was expected to integrate Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot, which would have introduced multiple AI features. However, according to Durov’s Code, the plan was abandoned due to user concerns about sharing personal messages and documents with AI.

  • Sources from Durov’s Code noted that Telegram prioritized user data protection, even if that meant declining major AI partnerships and potential funding
  • After that, Telegram began working on decentralized AI features called Cocoon
  • The idea focuses on ensuring that user messages remain inaccessible to third parties when AI features are used

“We realized the world needs a decentralized approach to AI, a world where AI belongs not to corporations or governments, but to the people. That’s why we rolled up our sleeves and started to work on something big at the intersection of blockchain, AI, and social media. We’ve decided to build a decentralized network for AI features, for AI compute.”

For example, Telegram has already introduced AI-powered summaries for posts and even web pages. In addition, Telegram is preparing an AI message editor that allows users to translate messages, change tone, or correct errors.
