OpenAI has introduced the GPT-5.2 model family, according to an announcement on its official website. The release comes less than a month after ChatGPT 5.1.
The company notes that the models’ knowledge is current as of August 31, and GPT-5.2 is now positioned as its “best model” for both general and professional use. The new generation is designed not only for everyday tasks but also for developers and other advanced users.
The updated GPT-5.2 lineup includes Instant, Thinking, and Pro. Instant delivers faster responses, Thinking handles tasks more deliberately, and Pro is intended for complex work such as mathematics and data analysis.
The new generation is more accurate at interpreting charts, dashboards, and other visual formats.
Testing shows that GPT-5.2 is no longer just a coding assistant but can effectively function as a tool for both frontend and backend development. OpenAI also introduced a new feature aimed at long-running agentic workflows:
“For tasks that benefit from thinking beyond the maximum context window, GPT-5.2 Thinking is compatible with our new Responses /compact endpoint, which extends the model’s effective context window. This lets GPT-5.2 Thinking tackle more tool-heavy, long-running workflows that would otherwise be limited by context length.”
The company also promises fewer hallucinations on complex tasks, along with stronger safeguards against malicious use.
GPT-5.2 is built for high productivity in professional workflows, reducing error rates and speeding up complex problem-solving. Its capabilities are aimed at delivering tangible time savings for specialists.
