Twitter has fired a large number of contract employees without notice. They learned of this after losing access to the company's email and internal communication systems

Platformer's Casey Newton reported that 4,400 of 5,500 contract workers were hit after about half of Twitter's staff and 15 per cent of its trust and security team were terminated.

Twitter employees said they had not been notified that their colleagues had been eliminated. They found out after they saw their accounts had been deactivated.

Twitter explained in a letter sent to contract employees that the job cuts were part of a "reprioritization and savings exercise."

A number of Twitter executives have resigned or been sacked since Musk bought Twitter, and it is possible that more employees could lose their jobs because of the company's new policy on personal presence in the workplace.

Musk urged employees to prepare for an 80-hour work week, a ban on remote working and fewer in-office benefits, including free lunches.

Basically, if you can show up in an office and you do not show up at the office, resignation accepted,

Musk said.
