Apple is expected to unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro later today. Here’s what the latest reports suggest.
The rumored 14-inch and 16-inch models would sit above the existing lineup, separate from the M6 MacBook Pro announced yesterday. The biggest changes are expected in the screen, design, and controls.
OLED touchscreens. The displays would replace mini-LED panels and introduce direct touch input to the Mac. Users could switch between tapping the screen and using the keyboard or trackpad.
Dynamic Island. An interactive camera cutout is expected to replace the notch. Newly discovered macOS 27 interface assets show pill-shaped notifications for AirPods connections, Focus mode, low battery, and other functions, adding evidence to earlier reports.
Touch-friendly macOS. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Golden Gate would adjust controls based on the input method, with touch-optimized menus and changes to the Dock and menu bar. Tapping a button could open a menu around the user’s finger.
Thinner bezels and a lighter body. The laptops are expected to have narrower screen borders and weigh less, though Gurman has cautioned that they may not be significantly thinner.
A reinforced hinge. The mechanism would keep the display steady during touch input, with cooling changes improving airflow through the hinge area. A separate, unconfirmed leak links the design to changes planned for future iPhone Duo models.
M5 Pro and M5 Max. The new models are expected to retain these processors, making the display and hardware design the focus of the upgrade.
Higher prices. Apple has reportedly discussed charging $2,899 for the 14-inch M5 Pro version, $400 above the current equivalent. The 16-inch model could start at $3,399 or more, with existing mini-LED versions remaining on sale.
Preorders are reportedly expected after the announcement, with availability potentially beginning November 6.
