Tesla's latest Cybertruck accessory, an off-road light bar, comes with a unique twist: owners will need to handle some parts of the installation themselves.

The light bar, a feature on Tesla’s Cyberbeast edition of the Cybertruck, is designed to illuminate up to 525 yards and sits above the front windshield. Although initially missing from the Cybertruck’s launch, the light bar is set to arrive in 2025, with some owners already receiving early shipments.

However, due to legal limitations, Tesla service teams can’t fully install the accessory. A company service manual states that employees "are not permitted to connect or assist with the connection of the Cybertruck off-road light bar harness to the roof accessory jumper harness connector" due to federal regulations. Tesla staff are also required to cover the light bar with blackout tape before delivery, which only customers or third-party mechanics can remove.

This isn't Tesla's first workaround to comply with regulations. The company previously developed a Cybertruck with “easily removable” side mirrors after laws requiring their installation blocked initial plans to do away with the mirrors entirely.
