The messenger has rolled out its first summer update, introducing several new communication-focused features.

Messaging channels

Users can now send direct messages to channels, opening conversations with their owners and admins. This lets administrators receive feedback without exposing their personal contact info.

The new interface appears separately from the owner's personal chats. Content creators can also charge users per message using Telegram Stars.

Voice message trimming

Voice messages can now be trimmed after recording and before sending by selecting the desired the section.

To access the feature, swipe up to the “lock” icon while recording. After trimming, you can continue the recording if needed.

Sending photos in higher quality

By default, Telegram compresses images to speed up delivery and save around 90% of data. The new update allows users to optionally send images in high resolution.

These images contain four times more pixels and require at least 0.5 MB of data to load.

Tabbed topic view

Groups with topics now have a redesigned tab layout, allowing users to switch between conversations with a single tap.

Users can toggle between two panel styles: a large sidebar or a minimalist top tab view.

Anything else?

  • Telegram now supports the standard iOS “Share” button for sending photos and videos directly to the Stories editor.
  • Polls now support up to 12 answer options. You can also forward polls to Saved Messages to keep track of the results.
