Spotify has finally introduced lossless audio streaming, according to a post on the company’s blog.

Lossless playback is now available to all Premium subscribers, despite earlier rumors suggesting it might require a separate, more expensive tier.

For now, however, the feature is only available in select regions:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • United Kingdom
  • Germany
  • Denmark
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Portugal
  • United States
  • Czech Republic
  • Sweden
  • Japan

In October, Spotify says Lossless will roll out to subscribers in more than 50 additional countries. Users will receive a notification once the option becomes available in their account settings.

The company recommends using wired headphones or speakers, noting that Bluetooth does not provide enough bandwidth for true lossless playback. Alternatively, users can rely on Spotify Connect for compatible devices.
