Sony has introduced a new initiative called The Playerbase that will allow fans to appear as real characters inside PlayStation games.
The program lets selected players have their likeness scanned and integrated into PlayStation Studios titles. Sony says the goal is to bring “PlayStation’s biggest fans into blockbuster PlayStation Studios games” by turning them into in-game characters.
The Playerbase will launch with Gran Turismo 7, with plans to expand to additional PlayStation titles in the future. Participants will need to sign in with their PlayStation account and submit an application. Sony will then shortlist finalists and conduct video interviews before selecting one fan to appear in the game.

The chosen participant will travel to a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for a full character scan. They will also collaborate with designers to create a custom fantasy logo and a unique vehicle livery, which will be permanently added to the game’s Showcase menu. The fan will appear in Gran Turismo 7 as a limited-time in-game character portrait.
The Playerbase program will initially be available in select markets across the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia. Applications are set to open via PlayStation’s official website.
