Samsung Display plans to begin mass production of 8.6-generation OLED panels in the third quarter of next year, with foldable displays in development for a North American client.

According to South Korean media, a Samsung Display spokesperson told reporters last week that the company is accelerating preparations for large-scale production of OLED screens designed for foldable smartphones. The spokesperson described them as being intended for a “U.S. client.”

While the representative avoided naming Apple directly, industry experts have little doubt the partner in question is Cupertino. After all, there aren’t many major smartphone makers based in the American market.

Samsung Display has already been supplying panels for most of Apple’s devices for years, making the Korean firm a natural fit for the rumored foldable iPhone project.

Insiders suggest the first iPhone Fold could debut as early as next fall, alongside the iPhone 18 lineup.

Among the expected highlights: a flexible display with no visible crease, Touch ID replacing Face ID, Apple’s new A20 chipset, and a dual-camera setup on the back.
