Samsung has officially introduced its first next-generation headset powered by Android XR, called the Galaxy XR.

The new device, which supports Android apps, is priced at $1,799 or $149 per month, with sales already underway in the U.S. and South Korea.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy XR’s operating system “combines Gemini’s helpfulness with an awareness of your surroundings.” The headset is powered by Google’s Gemini AI assistant, designed to create a more natural, immersive experience. It also supports optimized XR versions of familiar Google Play apps such as YouTube, Chrome, Netflix, and Google Maps.

Reviewers note that Samsung’s competitor to the Apple Vision Pro is significantly lighter, weighing 545 gramscompared to Apple’s 600 grams. The reduced weight comes from a redesigned plastic unibody frame with a soft back section and a dial-based fit adjustment instead of a removable strap.
