OpenAI has rolled out a new free translation service called ChatGPT Translate, Android Authority reports.
The tool is available via a dedicated link and supports recognition of more than 50 languages, though translations are currently available into 28 languages. It is powered by AI, but the exact model has not been disclosed. The feature is not integrated into the main ChatGPT interface and operates as a separate service.
The standalone tool positions OpenAI as a direct competitor in the online translation market. Its key differentiator is flexible control over translation style. Beneath the translation window, users can select presets to generate simpler or more formal versions of the text.

Selecting a preset opens the familiar ChatGPT interface with the corresponding prompt. Users can also request business, academic, or child-friendly versions of the same translation.
The system accounts for context, tone, and idiomatic expressions, improving overall accuracy. For advanced features such as voice input or image translation, users are redirected to the main ChatGPT app.
At launch, the service does not support document uploads or handwritten input, unlike some competing platforms. Voice input is available only through the microphone in the mobile version.
