OpenAI delays launch of “adult mode” for ChatGPT

OpenAI had planned to allow users to engage in “erotic conversations,” but the company has now decided to revise the timeline.

The new “adult mode” was first announced in mid-December 2025 and was originally expected to launch in the first quarter of this year.

• Before the launch, OpenAI intended to improve its automated system for verifying the age of ChatGPT users.
• This would ensure that the new mode is available only to verified adult users.

The launch timeline has been reconsidered as the company wants to focus on higher-priority features. OpenAI has not announced a new release date:

"We're pushing out the launch of adult mode so we can focus on work that is a higher priority for more users right now. This includes gains in intelligence, personality improvements, personalization, and making the experience more proactive."

Earlier it was also reported that OpenAI introduced GPT-5.4 just two days after announcing GPT-5.3 Instant.
