OpenAI has teased a dedicated hardware device designed for its vibe-coding tool Codex. The company briefly showcased the gadget in a video posted on X this week, with an official launch scheduled for July 15.
The teaser reveals a compact square-shaped device with several buttons and the message: "Your favorite Codex shortcuts are getting an upgrade."
According to The Verge, the device is unrelated to OpenAI's secret AI hardware project with former Apple designer Jony Ive. Instead, it is being developed in partnership with Work Louder, a company known for its customizable mechanical keyboards and macropads.
The silhouette shown in the teaser closely resembles the Work Louder Creator Micro 2, a macropad featuring 13 mechanical switches, a joystick, and a touchpad.
Work Louder previously collaborated with Figma on a custom keyboard featuring dedicated shortcuts for its design tools. Full specifications for the new Codex device are expected to be revealed at the official launch in two weeks.
