OpenAI is working on a new platform for generating music with artificial intelligence, according to The Information, which cites sources familiar with the project.
The company is reportedly collaborating with The Juilliard School, one of the world’s most prestigious music institutions. The project involves annotating and analyzing sheet music to build a large-scale dataset that will serve as the foundation for training the model.
This system will be able not only to compose original music from scratch but also to enhance existing tracks — for example, by adding instrumental layers to vocals or transforming the style of a composition.
Experts suggest the new platform could strengthen OpenAI’s position in the rapidly growing AI music market, currently dominated by tools like Suno and Udio. OpenAI has not yet shared technical details or launch plans, though the platform could be integrated into ChatGPT or Sora, or released as a standalone product.
OpenAI has previously experimented with music-generation models. In 2019, it introduced MuseNet, a tool for composing instrumental music, followed a year later by Jukebox, a system capable of creating songs with vocals and lyrics. According to insiders, the new project aims to combine these advances and take OpenAI’s music capabilities to an entirely new level.
