LG Display has introduced the world’s first stretchable display, capable of expanding by 50% beyond its original size.

At an event held at LG’s Science Park in Seoul, LG showcased a 12-inch screen that can stretch up to 18 inches. This marks a significant leap from their earlier prototype in November 2022, which could stretch, fold, and roll by 20%.

The new display is crafted from a special silicon material used in contact lenses, with enhanced flexibility and stretchability thanks to an innovative conductor design. Featuring micro-LEDs as small as 40 micrometers, the display can withstand up to 10,000 stretching cycles.

Lightweight and adaptable, LG’s elastic displays can adhere to curved surfaces, presenting promising applications in automotive design, wearable devices, and even fashion.
