Joby Aviation and Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA) have joined forces to bring air taxi services to Dubai by early 2026.
The deal, signed at the World Governments Summit, gives Joby exclusive rights to operate air taxis in Dubai for six years. This collaboration aims to make Dubai a global leader in clean and quick air travel.
JoeBen Bevirt, Joby Aviation's CEO, says this partnership is a big step toward showing the world the benefits of sustainable air travel. The RTA is excited about the new air taxi service, which will offer fast, safe, and convenient travel across Dubai.
Joby will work with Skyports to build and manage four air taxi hubs in Dubai, making it easy for people to hop on and off. Their electric aircraft can carry a pilot and four passengers, flying at speeds up to 200 miles per hour. For example, a trip from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah will take just 10 minutes, compared to 45 minutes by car.
Safety is a priority, so Joby, RTA, and Skyports are closely following regulations set by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the UAE. They're also focusing on improving the overall customer experience and integrating air taxis into Dubai's existing public transportation system.
To support the local community, Joby plans to hire mainly from Dubai and is exploring more opportunities in the UAE. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the advancement of sustainable urban air mobility, promising a future where flying taxis are a part of everyday life.
