Bloomberg says Apple’s glass-heavy iPhone 20 redesign is still on track

Apple has not abandoned plans for a glass-focused redesign of the iPhone for the lineup’s 20th anniversary, Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the company’s plans.

Next year’s iPhone Pro models are expected to feature glass on the front and back that curves into the sides, with the designs internally known as V73 and V74. A metal section will remain in the center of the chassis.

Apple’s design studio had also explored a more ambitious version that would replace nearly all of the metal with glass. That concept was dropped at an early stage after engineers were unable to solve the challenge of joining the glass panels reliably at mass-production scale.

Bloomberg’s sources contradict a report published this week by Jefferies analyst Edison Lee, who claimed Apple had canceled the glass iPhone based on supply-chain checks and downgraded the company’s stock. Apple shares fell 2.8% following the report. According to Bloomberg, the product roadmap has not changed.

Apple typically finalizes new iPhone designs roughly a year before their fall launch, meaning the 2027 models are already undergoing final testing.
