Google has launched Gemini Spark for macOS, bringing an agentic mode to the Gemini app. The AI assistant can interact with local files, connected apps, and third-party services, while also monitoring events in real time.
Within the macOS app, Gemini Spark can work beyond the chat interface by completing tasks involving files and applications on the user's computer.
Google is also introducing support for custom integrations through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing users to connect Gemini Spark with additional applications.
Another major feature is real-time monitoring. Gemini Spark can keep track of news, blogs, social media, financial markets, shopping activity, weather, sports, and email.
For example, users can ask Spark to send a recap after their favorite team's game ends or generate a financial report once a stock reaches a specific price.
Google also plans to add remote task execution in the future. Users will be able to start multi-step workflows from their smartphones while Gemini Spark completes them on their Mac. For example, the agent could locate a report stored on the computer, extract a revenue figure, and email it automatically.
Gemini Spark for macOS is now available in beta in the United States for Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and older. Support for the new integrations will begin rolling out to the web and mobile versions of Gemini over the coming week, while the macOS app will receive them in the following weeks.
