Google rolled out Chrome 108, which added memory and battery saving modes. The update was released on Windows, macOS and ChromeOS.

When RAM saving mode is enabled in Chrome, the browser releases the memory allocated for inactive tabs. Chrome will consume up to 30% less memory. This allows other programs and active tabs to use more computer resources.

The RAM saving mode can be configured in the settings, for example, by adding websites on which it will permanently be active. In advanced options, you can also specify how long it is going to take until Chrome makes the tab inactive.

Power saving mode limits browser background activity when the laptop's battery level drops below 20%. It also reduces the quality of visual effects on tabs, including animations and video frame rates. The function allows you to extend the laptop operating time without recharging.

Both modes will be available for Chrome users in a few weeks.
