Google has announced plans to develop two categories of smart glasses powered by artificial intelligence, Bloomberg reports.
The company is working on two distinct types of AI-enabled eyewear: one equipped with displays and another focused primarily on audio-driven features. Hardware partners include Samsung Electronics, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. Google has not yet revealed any final designs.
During a demonstration at Google’s New York office, a Bloomberg journalist tested several early prototypes. Among them were glasses developed with Xreal under the internal codename Project Aura.
Project Aura uses transparent optics while offloading all computing components to a separate external module. This approach keeps the glasses extremely lightweight for extended wear.
The device runs Android XR, the same operating system used in Samsung’s newly announced Galaxy XR headset.
Details such as pricing, battery life and final product names remain undisclosed. Google plans to officially launch its AI glasses sometime in 2026.
