Google is considering adding ads to its Gemini app in the future, according to Business Insider. For now, the chatbot remains completely ad-free.

Chief Business Officer Philipp Schindler said the company is currently focused on monetization within AI Mode — the conversational version of Search. However, ad formats that prove effective there could eventually be introduced into the standalone Gemini app.

As recently as January, Google’s VP of global ads said there were no plans to bring ads into the chatbot. Schindler has now taken a more open stance, noting that advertising has historically played a key role in scaling products to massive audiences.

He added that well-designed ad integrations can deliver real commercial value, but the company is not in a rush to implement them. Google can afford to delay monetization of Gemini thanks to strong revenue from its core Search business and YouTube.

Instead, the company is pushing subscription bundles that combine premium AI features, additional cloud storage, and services like Fitbit Premium. Google’s total paid subscriber base has already reached 350 million.
