At its Config conference today, Figma unveiled several new features, including a significant UI redesign, new AI tools, and built-in slideshow functionality.

The redesign aims to "lay the foundation for the next decade," featuring a new toolbar, rounded corners, and 200 new icons. This is Figma's third major redesign since its closed beta launch. The new look is rolling out in a limited beta, with a waitlist available for users.

Figma's headline feature is the introduction of generative AI tools, designed to help users quickly start projects. These tools can create app designs and generate images, such as a recipe page for cookies. The AI features will be free during the beta period, which runs through the end of the year, but may have usage limits.

In addition, Figma introduced Figma Slides, a new feature for creating and sharing presentations within the app. This tool allows real-time design tweaks and includes interactive features like polls. Figma Slides is available in open beta starting today.

The announcement follows Adobe's failed $20 billion acquisition of Figma, which ended due to regulatory issues. Adobe paid Figma a $1 billion breakup fee as a result.
