The Boring Company, founded by Elon Musk, will build a 17-kilometer underground transit system in Dubai known as Dubai Loop, Bloomberg reports.
The announcement was made by Omar Al Olama, the UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, who confirmed that the first phase of the project is set to launch in the second quarter of 2026.
Spanning 17 kilometers with 11 stations, the Dubai Loop will be capable of transporting up to 20,000 passengers per hour in electric-powered vehicles reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h. The system is not intended to replace the city’s metro but rather to introduce a new layer of high-speed, on-demand micro-mobility that can help reduce congestion on Dubai’s busy roads.
Although specific details about the mode of transport have not yet been confirmed, Bloomberg notes that The Boring Company has explored multiple options, including autonomous Tesla vehicles and vacuum-based capsules. The project forms part of Dubai’s broader strategy to improve mobility infrastructure and enhance connectivity across the city.
The Dubai Loop was first announced in February 2025 at the World Governments Summit, during a plenary session with Elon Musk.
