X is preparing to launch a standalone messaging app, XChat, for iOS, with the release scheduled for April 17.

The new messenger will expand the platform’s ecosystem and focus on security and communication features. According to available details, XChat will include end-to-end encryption, screenshot protection, and the ability to edit or delete messages for all participants in a conversation. Users will also be able to make voice and video calls across devices, including group calls without platform restrictions.

XChat is also expected to support disappearing messages and large group chats with hundreds of participants. The app will reportedly launch without advertising, which could position it as an alternative to established messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram. Another notable feature is support for audio and video calls without requiring a phone number, distinguishing it from many competing services.

Last summer, Elon Musk confirmed earlier reports about a new messaging system with file sharing and calling capabilities. The launch of XChat forms part of X’s broader strategy to evolve into a super app combining social networking, messaging, and additional services.
