Elon Musk has officially confirmed that Starlink is working on an interplanetary internet network.

The entrepreneur reposted a statement outlining plans to extend high-speed connectivity beyond Earth. In a brief post, the company said its team is actively exploring new opportunities in this space.

Musk has long argued that humanity must eventually become a multi-planetary civilization. Starlink engineers are currently developing laser-based inter-satellite communication links, and the company is also planning to deploy orbital satellite constellations around the Moon.

The new systems are designed to deliver data transmission with minimal latency, which is critical for crewed missions and the remote operation of equipment in space. They would also be needed to support the day-to-day connectivity needs of future off-world settlers.

Official details about the project have not yet been disclosed.
