Artificial intelligence has helped a man regain access to approximately $400,000 worth of Bitcoin after 11 years of being locked out of his wallet, Dexerto reports.

The user, who goes by Cprkrn on X, recovered 5 BTC with the help of Claude, the AI chatbot developed by Anthropic. At current exchange rates, the recovered cryptocurrency is worth roughly $398,000.

The wallet had been inaccessible since the user's college years. He had originally purchased the Bitcoin at $250 per coin, but later changed his password and forgot it. The forgotten combination turned out to be lol420fuckthePOLICE!*:).

For years, the owner unsuccessfully attempted to brute-force trillions of password combinations to regain access. As a last resort, he uploaded every remaining file from his old college computer into Claude.

The AI did not attempt to break Bitcoin's encryption. Instead, the model analyzed the uploaded data and located an older wallet.dat file that had been created before the password change.

A mnemonic recovery phrase that the user had accidentally found a few weeks earlier turned out to be a perfect match for that older file, restoring access to the wallet. In response, he has promised to name his future child after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.
