Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a dedicated gaming app, according to Bloomberg.
Sources say the app will be available on iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and Apple TV by the end of the year. The platform is expected to feature in-game achievement tracking, leaderboards, social functions, and other community features.
It will also include curated game picks from Apple and serve as a gateway to promote the App Store’s gaming section and the company’s Arcade subscription service. The new platform is set to replace Game Center — first introduced in 2010 — which failed to gain real traction with users.
The announcement is expected at WWDC 2025 on June 9, just days after the anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2.
In parallel, Apple has quietly acquired indie developer RAC7 Games, best known for the Apple Arcade-exclusive Sneaky Sasquatch. The studio has just two employees.
According to Bloomberg sources, the new app is designed to streamline how users interact with games across Apple’s ecosystem — but it’s unlikely to shift the broader perception of Apple as a second-tier player in gaming. Gamers and developers alike still agree: when it comes to gaming, MacBooks lag far behind Windows-based PCs.
