Apple's possible debut of foldable iPad in 2024 with carbon fiber kickstand

Samsung has been teasing Apple for not having a foldable iPhone in stores, but foldable devices are still a rarity. With limited competition in the US, Samsung currently holds the top position in the market. However, Apple is reportedly working on its own foldable devices, with rumors suggesting that a foldable iPad may be released before a foldable iPhone.

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has confirmed these rumors in a recent analysis. According to his sources, Apple will unveil a foldable iPad in 2024. The expected "all-new design foldable iPad" will largely benefit Anjie Technology, as per Kuo's tweet. It appears that the company will be responsible for supplying carbon fiber for foldable tablets and other similar devices.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the use of carbon fiber in the kickstand will enhance its strength while also making it lighter. Although the design of the foldable iPad is yet to be revealed, it is believed that the carbon fiber kickstand will be integrated into the device. This integration would benefit companies like Anjie as the kickstand would no longer be an optional accessory, but a standard feature in every foldable iPad.

Kuo hasn't provided any additional information about the folding design, making all predictions speculative. He did mention that there are no significant iPad launches expected in the next 9-12 months and mass production of the updated iPad mini is likely to begin in Q1 2024.

It's uncertain if the foldable tablet and iPad mini are related. However, consumers will have the option to pick between the mini's compact display and the largest screen size on a foldable tablet. Kuo predicts that iPad shipments will drop 10% to 15% in 2023 compared to the previous year, but the foldable iPad is expected to boost shipments and improve product variety.
