Apple has announced a long-awaited update for App Store developers: beginning in late 2025, they’ll be able to offer promo codes for all types of in-app purchases — including one-time features and in-game items.

Previously, promo codes were mostly limited to subscriptions. Now they’ll also apply to consumables, non-consumables, and non-renewing subscriptions. That means games will be able to give players free coins or gear via codes, while apps can email one-time promo codes to unlock premium features.

The feature will be built into iOS 26, and also supported in iOS 16.3 and up, iPadOS, and macOS. Developers can implement it using the offerCodeRedemption `offerCodeRedemption API or through a built-in interface via UIKit.

This update is part of the revamped StoreKit framework, introduced at WWDC25, and aims to simplify app promotion while boosting user engagement with a more flexible, reward-driven toolset.
