Mark Gurman from Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter reported that Apple could unveil the MacBook Air with an M4 chip “as early as this week.” An iPad announcement may also be on the horizon.
The journalist noted that Apple is cutting iPad Air shipments to retail stores, preparing for the launch of a new product and reducing stock of older models before discontinuation. An entry-level iPad refresh is also expected, but iPad Pro models won’t be updated until the M5 chip is released, according to Gurman.
The insider emphasized that an iPad announcement is unlikely to arrive in the next few days, but a MacBook Air with an M4 chip is inevitable. Along with the new processor, the maximum RAM is expected to increase to 32GB, and the webcam will feature Center Stage for automatic face tracking during video calls.
Gurman noted that there were no noticeable lines at Apple retail stores or carrier shops and that pre-order numbers indicate rather sluggish sales.
According to Apple Store consultants, the iPhone 16e sold in the dozens on launch day, whereas other iPhone models typically sell in the hundreds or thousands per store. However, Gurman pointed out that this device isn’t aimed at people who buy new iPhones immediately after launch, suggesting it targets a different consumer segment.
Gurman also touched on AI developments, stating that Apple won’t release its own LLM anytime soon. The updated Siri, expected in iOS 18.5, will bring only minor improvements. Meanwhile, Apple Intelligence in iOS 19 will retain the same feature set as in iOS 18.
