Apple plans to relocate some of its manufacturing from Mexico to the United States, according to former U.S. President Donald Trump, who announced the move after meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Trump stated that Cook has committed to investing hundreds of millions of dollars into the U.S. economy and has already halted operations at two factories in Mexico with plans to transfer them to the U.S.
Additionally, TSMC’s new plant in Arizona will begin mass-producing chips for Apple. While advanced 3nm and 2nm processors won’t be manufactured until at least 2028, the facility will soon start producing chips for iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models.
The decision to shift production may have been partly influenced by the threat of tariffs, a concern Trump has previously raised.
