The Live Translation feature, which lets AirPods provide real-time speech translation, is being temporarily disabled for users in EU countries and those with European accounts.
Apple confirmed the change on its website but did not give a reason. Experts say the restriction is linked to requirements of the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act and GDPR.
European regulators want to examine how the new technology processes speech data and whether it complies with privacy standards. Apple is expected to use the pause to adjust the service and bring it fully in line with EU rules.
Live Translation debuted with the AirPods Pro 3 and is set to roll out to other models, including the upcoming AirPods 4 with ANC and the AirPods Pro 2.
