Apple's next-generation iPad mini could become the company's first iPad with an official water-resistance rating, according to MacRumors.

The new model is expected to launch before October 2026. To improve water resistance, Apple is reportedly developing a redesigned speaker system.

  • Instead of conventional speakers with external openings, the new design would generate sound through vibrations of flat structural elements inside the chassis. This would eliminate one of the main entry points for water and dust.
  • It remains unclear which IP rating the tablet could receive. Water resistance would make the iPad mini safer to use around pools, in the bathroom, or in the kitchen. The current model does not carry an official IP rating.
  • The upcoming iPad mini is also rumored to feature an 8.4-inch OLED display with a 60 Hz refresh rate and a more powerful processor. Samsung Display has reportedly already begun mass production of OLED panels for the device, which is expected to launch in the second half of 2026.

The current iPad mini debuted in October 2024 with an A17 Pro chip and an 8.3-inch LCD display.

Apple is also expected to refresh its entire Mac lineup over the next two years in response to growing demand, introducing around 11 new models. According to recent reports, the rollout will begin in fall 2026 with updated iMac and MacBook Pro models, while the biggest addition will reportedly be high-end MacBooks with OLED touchscreens.
