X has published its first comprehensive transparency report since Elon Musk took over, revealing a significant increase in account suspensions and content moderation actions.

In the first half of 2024, the platform suspended nearly 5.3 million accounts, more than triple the 1.6 million suspensions recorded during the same period in 2022. The report also notes that over 10.6 million posts were removed or labeled for violating policies, with violations related to hateful conduct making up nearly half of the total.

The surge in account suspensions and content removal comes amid rising concerns from advertisers about toxic content on the platform. While X claims that rule-breaking content represents less than 1 percent of all posts, the data suggests a troubling increase in abusive and violent content since Musk's acquisition.

Additionally, the report highlights that X received 18,737 government requests for information, primarily from the EU, and took action on 70 percent of the 72,703 content removal requests it received, with Japan being the leading requester.
