macOS Sequoia, currently in its public beta phase, introduces a security feature requiring users to regularly update permissions for screen recording and screen-sharing apps.

The operating system will prompt users with pop-up notifications to confirm software access to their device's video and audio weekly, as well as the first time an app is opened after a reboot. This change affects third-party screen recording apps and general programs with screen-sharing capabilities, such as Zoom, Slack, and Discord.

Despite initial comparisons to the oft-criticized User Account Controls from Windows Vista, the full impact of these new permission alerts on the user experience remains to be seen.

Alongside this feature, macOS Sequoia also offers updates like AI integration with Apple Intelligence, iPhone screen mirroring on MacBooks, and the ability to block distracting pop-ups in Safari.
