Instagram starts letting users create AI versions of themselves

Meta's new AI Studio lets US users create AI profiles for Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and the web. These AI profiles can chat with followers and respond to comments on behalf of creators and businesses.

Users can customize their AI personas based on their content and preferences, set auto-replies, and choose specific accounts for interaction. AI Studio also allows the creation of new AI characters, competing with platforms like Character.AI and Replika.

Initially tested with celebrities, the AI profiles are clearly labeled to avoid confusion, and creators can restrict topics the AI won't discuss, such as financial advice.

Instagram users in the US can access AI Studio via its website or by starting a new “AI chat” on Instagram.
