Dubai launches trial of driverless taxis in Jumeirah 1 with safety drivers behind the wheel

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Cruise, a leading developer of autonomous driving technology, has begun controlled trials of autonomous vehicles based on Chevrolet Bolt models in the Jumeirah 1 area.

Although safe drivers will initially be behind the wheel, this is a significant step towards RTA offering autonomous cab and e-hailing services in the Emirate of Dubai in the future. Cruise's autonomous technology has been rigorously tested and RTA is committed to making autonomous transportation a success, further enhancing Dubai's reputation as a global leader in autonomous mobility and smart city initiatives.

The initiative is in line with Dubai's ambition to shift 25% of all trips to autonomous transportation by 2030, promoting safety, well-being and innovation in transportation.
