Porsche is taking CarPlay integration to the next level with an update to its My Porsche app, giving drivers the ability to access vehicle functions such as climate controls and interior lighting settings right from the CarPlay interface.

This update offers a glimpse into what the future of Apple's in-car software could look like.

The My Porsche iOS app connects with the car through the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system by scanning a QR code. Once connected, third-party software, like Apple Music, can be linked with the iPhone, enabling seamless integration between the car's infotainment system and the smartphone.

For Porsche electric cars, the CarPlay interface will also display battery charge status, completing the recent Taycan software update that supports the EV routing feature in Apple Maps.

While CarPlay has yet to realize its full potential as a complete in-car solution, Porsche's integration demonstrates its capabilities. Quick actions such as pre-warming the car in the CarPlay interface and customizing sound profiles demonstrate that Porsche is embracing the solution developed by Apple.

The updated My Porsche app CarPlay experience is currently available for owners of the new Porsche Cayenne and will be rolled out to other models in the future. However, compatibility may vary for older Porsche models.
