The "Magic Eraser" photo-editing feature, which is one of the top features of Google Pixel, is now being extended to other Android and iOS devices.

Google has announced that its popular image editing tool, which uses AI to remove unwanted content, will be available to Google One subscribers in addition to existing Pixel owners. Google One subscribers will receive several other editing tools, including a new HDR video effect, exclusive collage styles, and more.

Originally, Google One was introduced as a way to pay for additional cloud storage for services like Photos, Docs, and Gmail. However, over time, it has evolved into a broader suite of features, including a VPN and other members-only benefits, such as the ability to host longer group video calls on Google Meet, 10% cashback on Google Store purchases, and extended trials. Additionally, premium Google Photos features, such as Portrait Light for adjusting the light position and brightness on subject's faces and softening the background, are also available to subscribers.

The Google Photos perks are expanding once again with the introduction of Magic Eraser and other new additions. Magic Eraser, previously exclusive to Google Pixel 6 and 7 owners, will now be available to all Google One subscribers on Android and iOS devices. It will also be accessible to older Pixel models, such as Pixel 5a, without requiring a Google One subscription. Although other third-party apps offer object removal capabilities, Magic Eraser's unique functionality is integrated into the main Photos app on Android devices, making it a popular choice for iPhone users who prefer it over Apple's Photos app.

Additionally, Google One subscribers will soon be able to utilize a new HDR video effect that can help balance dark foregrounds and bright backgrounds, or vice versa. This effect is comparable to the one that was previously available for photos, according to Google.

In addition, the collage editor in Google Photos is receiving a variety of new Styles to choose from, as well as the ability to apply a Style to only one photo in the collage. Both Google One subscribers and Pixel owners will have access to these new features.

Another new perk for Google One subscribers is the ability to receive free shipping when ordering photo prints from the online store in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and EU.

While each feature on its own may not be sufficient to justify the cost of a subscription, the combined package, as well as other benefits such as backup and sync options and extra storage, has made Google One a popular subscription in app stores. In 2022, data.ai discovered that the Google One app was the No. 6 non-game app globally in terms of consumer spending and No. 8 in the U.S. Although most customers subscribe to gain extra storage and backup, Google One is also another means for Google to retain customers within its app ecosystem, even if they do not own a Pixel phone or an Android device.
