The Realme GT Neo 5 was unveiled in China today and is poised to be among the quickest charging phones available.
Realme has recently launched a new smartphone, the Realme GT Neo 5, that boasts support for a whopping 240W fast charging. According to GSMArena, this makes it the fastest charging smartphone currently available, outpacing the 210W charging of the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition and almost doubling the 150W offered by the likes of the OnePlus 10T. This speed aligns with the most recent USB power specification released by the USB-IF in 2021.
While high fast charging wattage like this might sound impressive, it's approaching the limit of practicality. Realme claims that the GT Neo 5's 4,600mAh battery can be fully charged in just 9 and a half minutes, thanks to its 240W charging capability. This speed is comparable to what Redmi claimed for the 210W charging of the Note 12 Discovery Edition last year (which has a slightly smaller 4,300mAh battery). If you're in a hurry and just need a quick boost, the Realme GT Neo 5 can reach 20% charge in 80 seconds and 50% in just 4 minutes.
The Realme GT Neo 5 is the latest offering from BBK Electronics, the parent company of Oppo and OnePlus. This new device boasts a 240W fast-charging solution, which was previewed by Oppo at the Mobile World Congress 2022. Although this fast charging technology has not yet been integrated into any Oppo or OnePlus phone, the Realme GT Neo 5 will be the first device to showcase it.
The Realme GT Neo 5 has been launched in China and will be available in two different charging configurations - the 240W version, which is more expensive and starts at 3,199 yuan (approximately $472) for 16GB RAM and 256GB storage, and the 150W version, which starts at 2,599 yuan (approximately $383) for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage and has a slightly larger 5,000mAh battery.
In addition to its fast charging, the GT Neo 5 features unique RGB lighting on its back. This lighting serves as a notification light and also turns red when the phone's battery is low. The lighting is located on the right side of the camera and is different from the Nothing Phone 1's glyph interface, which covers the entire back of the phone.
The GT Neo 5 is a standard Android device with a 6.74-inch 1240p 144Hz OLED display and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor. It features three rear cameras - a 50 megapixel main sensor, an 8 megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 2 megapixel macro lens. The device is available in white, black, and purple colors.
