The world’s largest hydroponic (a method of growing plants without soil) farm, Bustanica has opened in Dubai.
The facility is the first vertical farm for Emirates Crop One, the joint venture between one of the world’s largest catering operations, Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC) and Crop One, an industry leader in technology-driven indoor vertical farming.
Together the companies invested about $40 million in 330,000 sq. ft (roughly 30,600 sq m) facility located near Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central.
The farm is expeted to produce 1 million kilograms of high-quality leafy greens annually and about of 3,000 kgs per day.
Thanks to new water solutions, Bustanica expects to use 95 percent less water compared to conventional agriculture. Driven by machine learning, artificial intelligence and advanced methods, Bustanica is supported by a highly specialized in-house team.
