Trump invites Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to White House dinner

President Donald Trump invited Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to a private White House dinner, days after an appeals court ruled that the Pentagon could keep Claude out of its supply chain.

The dinner would be their first one-on-one meeting, Axios reported, citing people familiar with the plans.

The invitation follows a September 25 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. The court rejected Anthropic’s challenge to the Pentagon’s decision to designate the company a supply-chain risk and remove Claude from Defense Department systems and contractor work for the department. The judges said the Pentagon had grounds to view Anthropic’s ability to restrict Claude’s use as a risk.

The dispute began after Anthropic refused to remove its prohibitions on using Claude for lethal autonomous warfare and mass surveillance of Americans. The Pentagon sought contractual permission for “all lawful uses” of the model.

The appeals court ruling was separate from an August decision by a federal judge in California, which blocked broader measures against Anthropic. The two courts considered different government actions, so the appellate ruling did not reverse the California decision.

Axios reported that Trump personally invited Amodei after the Anthropic CEO missed a White House state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping because of a scheduling conflict. The dinner with Trump was planned for Sunday evening; the White House has not publicly detailed its agenda.
