Telegram launches a bot for reporting non-consensual intimate content

Telegram now lets users report intimate images or videos that have been posted on the platform without their consent.

For now, the feature is only available to users in the United States, where Telegram has launched a dedicated bot called @TIDABot. The bot was created to comply with the U.S. TAKE IT DOWN Act, federal legislation aimed at curbing the distribution of non-consensual intimate content, including AI-generated deepfakes.

  • The law's full title is the Tools to Address Known Exploitation by Immobilizing Technological Deepfakes on Websites and Networks Act.
  • It targets the publication of intimate images and videos shared without a person's consent, including deepfakes.
  • The act was signed into law in the United States on May 19, 2025. By May 2026, its content removal requirements officially came into effect for online platforms, which is why the bot launched in Telegram and is currently limited to U.S. users.

When a user discovers an intimate image or video featuring them, or content that depicts their identity, they can submit a report through @TIDABot. Telegram has committed to reviewing each report and removing the relevant content within 48 hours.

The company has not yet indicated whether it plans to offer a similar reporting tool to users in other countries.
