Sony offers up to $400 for PS5 trade-ins

Sony has begun offering select PlayStation 5 owners up to $400 to trade in their consoles.
The offer has appeared in the official PlayStation app and is being handled in partnership with refurbished electronics marketplace Back Market.
- The full $400 isn't available for every console. The maximum payout applies to a standard PS5 in excellent condition with at least two controllers.
- Trade-in values vary depending on the console model, condition, storage capacity and included accessories.
- Consoles are sent to Back Market's partners, not directly to Sony. The devices are inspected, refurbished and resold, with payment issued after their condition has been assessed.
Sony already partners with Back Market through its Trade In & Trade Up program, which allows customers to exchange PlayStation consoles and other electronics for cash.
Sony has not explained why it is now promoting PS5 trade-ins through its own app. Some international outlets have suggested the move could help put unused consoles back into circulation, potentially generating additional revenue from game purchases and subscriptions.
So far, the offer has been spotted among users in the United States. Sony has not announced plans to expand it to other markets.
